SOUTH AFRICA SHOWCASES TEA AND FOOD PRODUCTS AT PRESTIGIOUS HONG KING FAIRS
South Africa’s rich tea heritage and diverse food offerings will take centre stage at two of Asia’s most prestigious trade events – the Hong Kong International Tea Fair and the Hong Kong Food Expo – both organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
The annual fairs, which attract global attention, will run from 14–16 August 2025 for the Tea Fair and 14–18 August 2025 for the Food Expo. They serve as prime platforms for countries to showcase their finest produce, connect with international buyers, and tap into new markets. This year’s participants will include China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
The Hong Kong International Tea Fair is renowned for its celebration of specialty teas, tea culture, and artisanal tea ware from around the world. Visitors will be treated to live tea-tasting sessions, tea art performances, competitions, seminars, and workshops. The fair also features Click2Match, an AI-powered business-matching service designed to link exhibitors with potential buyers across the globe.

The Hong Kong Food Expo, Asia’s leading trade and public exhibition for food and gastronomy, offers an expansive showcase of products ranging from premium delicacies to everyday classics. This year’s highlights include innovations such as alternative proteins, 3D food printing, and smart packaging solutions. The event draws decision-makers and trendsetters from retail, wholesale, import/export, gastronomy, and hospitality sectors worldwide.
In line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for South African diplomatic missions to intensify economic diplomacy efforts, the South African Consulate in Hong Kong will spearhead the country’s participation in both events.
Four companies will represent South Africa’s tea industry: Skywoo, a Hong Kong-based importer of Rooibos; Rooibos Pty Ltd, based in Shanghai; Magwa Estate Tea from Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape; and Rooibos Laager. Visitors will have the chance to experience South Africa’s renowned Rooibos and black teas, learn about their heritage, and explore their health benefits.

The South African food showcase will feature premium beef, lamb, biltong, and a variety of canned products, offering international audiences a taste of the country’s vibrant culinary landscape.
Presentations organised by the Consulate will introduce participating brands and delve into South Africa’s tea and food culture. Consulate officials will highlight the country’s tea heritage, global market presence, and meat industry, while brand representatives will engage visitors in detailed tastings and discussions about product quality and benefits.
“These events not only promote South African products but also create valuable networking opportunities, foster business relationships, and open doors to global markets,” the Consulate said in a statement.
With the world watching, South Africa’s participation promises to brew interest and open new trade pathways in the fast-growing Asian market.
