PRINCESS NDAMASE CHAMPIONS CHANGE IN EASTERN CAPE COMMUNITIES

FLAGSTAFF – Princess Nandile Ndamase of the Mpondo Kingdom and Secretary General of the South African Royal Princesses Network (SARPN) has embarked on a dynamic mission to bring social and economic upliftment to rural communities, with a strong focus on youth empowerment, mental health awareness, and the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

Born and raised in Flagstaff, Princess Ndamase’s royal title has not distanced her from the challenges faced by ordinary citizens—rather, it has become a driving force behind her advocacy. In her role at SARPN, she works to connect traditional leadership with modern solutions, ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard and supported.

This June, which marks both Youth Month and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in South Africa, Princess Ndamase has called for GBV awareness programs to become standard in schools. “The school environment is critical for early education on these issues,” she says. “We must empower the youth with knowledge and open up conversations, especially with boy children, about violence, responsibility, and mental wellbeing.”

She has also raised concern over the increasing reports of abuse and violence against children, referencing the recent tragic case of Anga Ndema from Tsomo. “We need to ask whether enough is being done—not just in prevention, but in the aftercare and support for victims and their families,” she said.

In her capacity as an entrepreneur and artist, Princess Ndamase is combining creativity and leadership to engage youth in sustainable projects. On 20 June, she met with Nkosi Ayanda Faku in Flagstaff to discuss agricultural initiatives aimed at empowering young people through land-based economic opportunities.

Continuing her community outreach, on 24 June, Princess Ndamase held a courtesy meeting with Her Worship Mayor Daniswa Mafumbatha of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality at the Wild Coast Casino in Mbizana. She was joined by Mr. Clive Noconjo, Manager in the Mayor’s Office, and Ms. Mafumbatha, Manager of Economic Development.

The meeting provided a platform for Princess Ndamase to present SARPN’s vision: to support sustainable development, promote mental health awareness, empower women and youth, and address GBV in rural communities. “Our mission is to work collaboratively with government, NGOs, and businesses to bring change where it’s needed most,” she said.

Princess Ndamase emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving long-term impact. “This meeting is a first step toward building a shared vision for uplifting Bizana and surrounding areas. We believe that combining traditional leadership and local government efforts can lead to real, tangible improvements in people’s lives.”

The Mayor’s office welcomed the engagement, expressing readiness to collaborate on future community initiatives.

“We appreciate Princess Ndamase’s commitment and look forward to working together to drive inclusive development,” said Mayor Mafumbatha.

As the South African Royal Princesses Network continues to grow its presence, Princess Ndamase remains steadfast in her mission to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change—proving that royalty has a role to play in building stronger, safer, and more empowered rural communities.
