SAPS INVESTIGATES ALLEGED RAPE OF MINOR CHILD
Matatiele – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation into the alleged rape of a minor child, whose mother is a serving police officer. The incident was reported on October 16, 2024, at Matatiele SAPS.
The SAPS has condemned the alleged crime in the strongest terms and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim while providing all necessary support to the affected family.
According to SAPS, a case of rape was registered, and the suspect(s) are still being sought. The victim, a minor, received medical and psychological care, and was referred to a Thuthuzela Care Centre for specialized medical and trauma support.
The SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is handling the investigation with the utmost urgency. The mother, being a SAPS member, is receiving employee wellness support, including counseling through the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) Unit.
The SAPS is working closely with social workers and victim support organizations to ensure the family receives comprehensive assistance.
“We urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist us in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice,” said the SAPS spokesperson. “Tipsters may remain anonymous, and we assure that all information received will be treated with confidentiality and sensitivity.”
