KAIZER Chiefs Thrash Stellenbosch in Cup Quarter-Final
KAIZER Chiefs continued their dominance over Stellenbosch FC, thrashing them 3-1 in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday night.
This victory marks the third time Amakhosi have defeated the Stellies this season, having already beaten them twice in league play.
Inacio Miguel put Chiefs ahead in the 20th minute, converting a penalty awarded after Stellies defender Ismael Toure handled the ball in the box.
Steve Barker’s side had chances to equalize, but it wasn’t until the 86th minute that they finally found the back of the net through Andre de Jong’s header.
However, Chiefs regained the lead in stoppage time, courtesy of goals from Pule Mmodi and Mfundo Vilakazi, securing their spot in the semi-finals.
The match saw its share of drama, with Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson being sent off in the 77th minute for allegedly making inappropriate comments to one of the assistant referees.
Despite this setback, Amakhosi held their ground and emerged victorious, thanks in large part to Miguel’s penalty conversion and the late goals from Mmodi and Vilakazi.
