Alfred Nzo District Municipality Aims to Retain Clean Audit Status

In a bid to maintain its clean audit status, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) engaged with the Office of the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA) in EmaXesibeni today, February 18, 2025. This session follows the municipality’s attainment of a clean audit outcome for the 2023/24 financial year.

The meeting aimed to promote a culture of performance, transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity within the municipality. Key areas of focus included financial management, service delivery, compliance, ethics, fraud, and responsiveness.

As the 2024/25 audit season approaches, the municipality seeks to share lessons learned from the previous audit cycle, identify shortcomings, and develop strategies to retain its clean audit status. The AGSA emphasized the importance of paying suppliers within 30 days, supporting the Accounting Officer, and ensuring Council backing for the entire process.

Notably, the Auditor General highlighted that the ANDM had no material irregularities during the 2023/24 audit cycle, demonstrating good financial management. The AGSA also stressed the need to shift the public sector culture towards doing good, with a target achievement date of 2030.

Furthermore, the municipality was urged to ensure sustained and reliable water access. As Ms. Siphokazi Makubalo, Audit Manager from AGSA, noted, “A clean audit opinion should reflect not only proper financial reporting but also actual service delivery to communities.”

The session concluded with a call to strengthen monitoring and oversight, aligning reported performance with actual service delivery. Attendees included ANDM Senior Management, Alfred Nzo Development Agency (ANDA), and representatives from AGSA.
