MAYOR LAUNCHES STREETLIGHT REPAIR PROJECT IN FLAGSTAFF TOWN
In a bid to enhance safety and reduce crime, Ingquza Hill Local municipality Mayor Cllr. Nonkosi Pepping has initiated a streetlight repair project in ward 06, Flagstaff town. The project, courtesy of Streetlights Repair Company, aims to repair 50 streetlights in the area.
During the launch, Mayor Pepping emphasized the importance of protecting government services and infrastructure. He urged residents to report any illegal connections to the authorities, stating, “Let’s help each other in protecting government services and infrastructure. Let’s not get involved in spoiling what has been done.”
The project is expected to create part-time job opportunities, with at least six positions available upon completion. While the repair work is not a long-term job, it provides temporary employment opportunities for locals.

Councilors and residents of the ward attended the launch to witness the project’s commencement and seek explanations about the initiative. Mayor Pepping is scheduled to make a similar presentation in Lusikisiki, Newtown, later in the day.
This project aligns with the broader goal of improving safety and security through proper lighting. As noted in a similar project proposal, “Proper lighting acts as a deterrent to criminal activities by increasing visibility and reducing hiding spots”. By repairing streetlights, the municipality aims to create a safer environment for residents and visitors.
