ILITHALETHU BOOK CLUB MEMBER SHINES IN LITERARY PURSUITS
Lazola Siyo, a young and talented member of the Ilithalethu book club, has made a name for herself in the world of literature. With a passion for presentations and a love for reading, Lazola has excelled in book reviews, debates, and even poetry.
Lazola’s journey with the Ilithalethu book club began when she was invited to join by a fellow student. With the support of her teacher, Miss Songwevu, Lazola quickly became an integral part of the club. She participated in competitions, winning every single one, and formed strong bonds with her fellow members.
One of Lazola’s greatest strengths is her ability to review books in both IsiXhosa and English. Despite initially wanting to focus solely on IsiXhosa reviews, Lazola rose to the challenge and successfully reviewed books in both languages. Her favorite book to review was “Buzani Kubawo,” and she also enjoyed debating topics related to the book “Akwaba Ndandingambonanga.”

Through her experiences with the Ilithalethu book club, Lazola has learned the value of discussion and collaboration.
“I’ve learnt that through discussing, there’s always good things that are going to happen,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of community and mutual support, quoting the proverb “Ayikho into elungayo uyinkomo edla yodwa, umntu ngumntu ngabantu” (There’s no beast that can be slaughtered by one person alone; a person is a person because of other people).
Lazola’s love for IsiXhosa literature is evident in her favorite books, which include “Buzani Kubawo” and “Ubulumko Bezinja.” These books, she says, represent her background and culture, and she takes pride in sharing her perspectives and insights with others.
As for her future aspirations, Lazola hopes to write her own book one day and continue reviewing and presenting on IsiXhosa literature. With her talent, passion, and dedication, there’s no doubt that Lazola will make a lasting impact in the world of literature.
