COGTA TAKES ACTION AGAINST CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN TRADITIONAL INITIATION SCHOOLS

The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) department, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders (ECHTKL), has launched an investigation into reported acts of extortion in traditional initiation schools in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

According to Nkosi Mpumalanga Gwadiso, Chairperson of the ECHTKL, “The matter is receiving our utmost attention with all relevant key stakeholders, including the Metro Initiation Forum. We will visit the Metro on Monday as part of firming up our interventions”.

COGTA MEC Zolile Williams emphasized the department’s commitment to eradicating lawlessness, stating, “We will continue to stamp the authority of the state on any form of lawlessness for the safe passage of kids to adulthood.

“The department’s swift response to the allegations of extortion in traditional initiation schools demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of initiates.
