STEPHEN GROOTES RESIGNS FROM SABC
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced that renowned radio host Stephen Grootes will be leaving SA FM at the end of July 2024 to pursue a new career opportunity.
Grootes, who has been a fixture on SA FM’s popular morning show “Sunrise” for six years, expressed his gratitude to the station and its listeners. “It has been the honour of my professional life to speak to the entire nation every morning. I will deeply miss the Sunrise team, our listeners, and particularly our callers,” he said.
SABC Radio management praised Grootes for his dedication and impeccable work ethic, wishing him well in his future endeavors. Mmoni Seapolelo, Acting Group Executive: Corporate Affairs & Marketing, thanked Grootes for his loyal service and confirmed that a new presenter for “SA FM Sunrise” will be announced soon.
Grootes’ departure marks the end of an era on SAfm, but the station is committed to maintaining its high standards of programming and will introduce a new host to carry on the legacy of “Sunrise”.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Grootes has rejoined Primedia’s 702. In a statement released by 702 on Tuesday, 2 July, Grootes is welcomed as he rejoins Primedia.

Stephen Grootes Returns to Primedia Broadcasting to Host The Money Show
Veteran journalist and broadcaster Stephen Grootes is returning to Primedia Broadcasting, where he began his career in 2002. After a six-year stint at SAfm, Grootes is rejoining Primedia to host The Money Show on 702 and CapeTalk, effective August 1.
Grootes, who has a wealth of experience in radio and television broadcasting, is eager to rejoin the Primedia family and contribute to the station’s business and economic discussions. “With the political landscape shifting, I believe this is the perfect time to return to Primedia and focus on business and economic issues,” he said.
Mzo Jojwana, Chief Content Officer at Primedia Broadcasting, welcomed Grootes back, praising his exceptional journalism skills, in-depth knowledge, and connections with newsmakers and the business community. “We are thrilled to have Stephen back home, hosting The Money Show, a critical program that demystifies the financial world and provides valuable insights to our listeners,” Jojwana said.
Grootes takes over from Bruce Whitfield, who hosted The Money Show for over 20 years. The program airs weekday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm on CapeTalk and 702, featuring interviews with business leaders and newsmakers.
In addition to his radio work, Grootes is a respected television anchor, writer, and analyst, having contributed to The Daily Maverick for 15 years and anchoring on Newsroom Afrika.
