EASTERN CAPE OFFICER SHOT DEAD DURING ROBBERY
Eastern Cape Health department has confirmed the death of a male security officer, who was serving at Maqanyeni Clinic, Ngqeleni. A security guard was shot dead during robbery while on duty, on Friday 26 April 2024.
According to the department, thugs shot and killed a security guard and stole five computers at Maqanyeni Clinic last night.
MEC for Health in the Eastern Cape, Nomakhosazana Meth condemned the incident.
“We have learnt with shock the killing of the security guard at the hands of vicious criminals with no regard for human life. We send our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends. May his soul rest in peace” MEC Meth said.
Meth also called on the police to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to bring these criminals to book, urging communities to work with authorities to ensure that the people behind this “heinous crime” are arrested.
“When our facilities and healthcare workers are attacked, it is the communities that will suffer. We are calling on communities to protect our staff, including security guards at our facilities,” she said.
The department will also provide counselling services to traumatized staff. MEC Meth delegated acting head of department, Miyakazi Nokwe to visit the family of the slain security guard and his colleague who was on duty last night. Nokwe and a team of senior departmental officials visited the two families.
