MUNICIPALITY’S FACEBOOK PAGE GET CAUGHT WITH UNRELATED CONTENT

Alfred Nzo district municipality in the Eastern Cape province has been ambushed with posts that have nothing to do with the municipality, on Tuesday, 23 April 2024. This has shocked Facebook users, asking what has happened, mostly as those updates were of nudity. About three updates were shared on the page, with no one knowing what has gotten to the municipality. However, many believed that the content that is shared on the page is too far from that of the municipality and is close to be against Facebook regulations and the public concluded that the Facebook page was hacked. They started mentioning the officials from the municipality, alerting them about the issue.

At a later stage the municipality released a statement, notifying the public about the district municipality’s page being hacked. Alfred Nzo spokesperson, Lixolile Petela used his personal account to share the statement which read,

“This is to inform the public that the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Facebook account has been hacked. Please ignore all content that is unrelated to the Municipality. Our technicians are currently working on resolving the matter”.

After the statement by Petela, one would think it would be clear to everyone, however that was not the case, according to the comments, with many making jokes about the matter, saying this is service delivery. It is not yet clear as when and how will the matter be resolved and it is not known as to whether the page will be restored or the new page will be created.
