LUSIKISIKI TO BE POSITIVELY RECOGNISED AS DRAMA SERIES PRODUCES TALENT

Kwelakhaya, a 13-part drama series is to be produced in Lusikisiki by a production called Amagubevu Communications. Initially, the series was fueled by the rise of Gender Based related cases and according to the executive producer, Yongama Mrwetyana this series

“We were so humbled by the reception we received from local businesses, the likes of Mr. Mathandabuzo of Khwalo Funeral Services, Nwabisa Wopula and the Mgudus from Sips boutique hotel to name a few” says Mrwetyana, adding that they have been motivated to shoot a sister show, called Isifungo: The Vow.

He adds that they spotted a lot of talent in deep rural areas where they did auditions. He says elderly people have been casted, making an example of Mr. Zamuxolo Sivuka who is 61 years old.

Mrwetyana also said Lusikisiki has many tourist attractive sites,

“Which I believe when our projects hit national airwaves, the national economy will get a boost as tourists will come in numbers to places like Mbotyi, wanting to experience the culture of amaMpondo” he added.

He says as they tackle issues that happen to these areas the storyline will always be busy and they intend for a series to become a telenovela and be a long running show, like Generations, Uzalo and Muvhango.

He concluded that they have negotiations with SABC for the story to be aired.

“Many people who relate to our story are SABC viewers and they have no access to DSTV. Our set is in rural areas and people from rural areas know SABC” he concluded.
