FORMER MATATIELE MAYOR PASSES AWAY

Former Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor, Momelezi Mbedla has sadly passed away after a short illness . Mbedla died on Thursday, April 11, 2024 afternoon at St Augustine Hospital in KZN. He was 45 years old. The news have been confirmed by his older brother, Siyabulela Mbedla. According to Siyabulela, Cllr Mbedla was rushed to Kokstad Private hospital on Tuesday this week after complaining about body pains.

“He complained about body pains and he has to be rushed to the hospital” Says Siyabulela.

He adds that on Wednesday, 10 April things became worse and was transfered to St Augustine Hospital in KwaZulu Natal where he lost his life. Cllr Mbedla was a political head of the Community Service Department at Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

He led the Matatiele Local Municipality as the Mayor after being deployed by the ANC since 2013. He was also brought back to the same position in 2016 until 2021.He is leaving behind five children and his wife.

Alfred Nzo District Municipality has sent the condolences, following the sad passing of Mbedla. Alfred Nzo District Mayor, Vukile Mhlelembana said,

“His passing is an enormous loss, not only to his family but to the Alfred Nzo district at large as he was comitted to changing the lives of the ordinary citizens. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
