INFORMATION ON “DENIED” YOUNG AFRICAN GOAL
Tanzania’s Young Africans SC have filed a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (Caf) over allegations of match fixing for Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League. The teams got the Champions League quarterfinal at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria, on Friday night. The game ended in a 3-2 win in favor of Sundowns on penalty kick, after it ended 0-0 in 90 minutes. However, what fueled the most anger was a goal scored by Aziz Ki Stephen in the 57th minute. It looks like it’s in but the referee denied it.
“The refereeing team who was in charge of the game (named) decided not to go and check with VAR,” the Young Africans statement said.
“We see this as a violation of a good game and justice in football.”
In a statement The Young Africans have laid out allegations about Sundowns, which could be labeled as a negative impact on the game on African football.
“We regret that the referee ‘s action points to a deliberate act od match fixing to ensure that the match favors Mamelodi Sundowns”.
“This is attested to by making different decisions through VAR.
The statement further alleged that more focus was on mistakes made by Young Africans that could have had the effect of getting a red card.
“But later a clear goal was ignored”.
“Our request is that CAF should probe a proper investigation on this matter and evidence must be found if there was a foul play.
According to Young Africans’ statement, Caf must obtain match and VAR records, and those found to have a hand in what happened, are dealt with accordingly.
