PENNY NTULI’S JOURNEY TO JOZI: ROAD TO TRIBAL SOCIAL MEDIA SQUABBLES

There has been tribal squabbles on social media after former Gagasi FM presenter’s post. Penny Ntuli, who recently joined Jozi FM has been interpreted to be tribalistic after she posted a status, acknowledging only the Zulu nation for their unwavering support. Ntuli just ditched Gagasi FM, citing that she was about to get paid R2800 per month. Few were asking her how much was she expecting after working one day a week and three hours a day. However, many were showing support as she was updating on her social media platforms, up until she just joined Jozi FM on 2 April 2024. She took to social media to acknowledge the unwavering support she got from the people of KwaZulu Natal and went on to write,

“Yesterday, I experienced what the term, Hlangana Zulu means, I felt like nihambe nami nayegoli (You went with me to Johannesburg), I’m so grateful, ezinye izinto zenzeka phambi kwenu, ngiyawa ngiyavuka, ngiyazama phambi kwenu and kuzolunga (many things transpire in your presence, I fall, I get up and try again in front of you and it will be okay)” read Penny’s status.

After reading the status, her followers who are not Zulu speaking attacked her, alleging that she only acknowledges Zulu speaking followers. Social Media user, Live Mbeqa wrote,

“So it means you do not care about us, Xhosa nation? That is so arrogant of you”.

Sonjica Phakathi Sasha Banks wrote,

“But we were in this together, why do you only acknowledge Zulus?”.

The Zulu speaking people only congratulated her, while others emphasized that Zulu speaking people only matter in Penny’s life. Penny tried to explain her post, saying she did not mean it that way, however it seemed like she made it worse by explaining. Some facebook users accused Penny of ignorance as they think this might incite violence caused by these tribal squabbles.
