LAPHU LAPHU WHILE WAITING FOR PENSION PAYOUT: THE GENEROSITY FROM FLAGSTAFF SQUARE

Elderly people were all smiles as they got to be given some meal while waiting to collect their pension payouts at Flagstaff Square. This comes after the management of Flagstaff square, a mall situated in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, took a decision to feed the elderly men and women. This was not the first time Flagstaff Square has been handing out food packs to the pensioners since the mall was opened in 2021.

Pensioners could not hide their happiness as they benefited in this program, thanking the management for bringing this idea.

“Thina mntam sineswekile (My child, we are diabetic) and we get hungry at any given time, so this idea which was brought by Flagstaff Square really helps us because while waiting in these long queues, we have some edibles” said one old woman.

“I will forever thank Flagstaff Square for what they are doing to us, when we are here, we get hungry, at the same time we do not want to leave these queues because what if you come back and the queue has gone far, where you do not know. So now we eat while waiting and it is really a good idea. I want to thank Flagstaff Square management for this” a pensioner said.

Flagstaff Square Area manager, Luvo Tobela said it is an idea that was brought to ensure that elderly people maintain their sugar levels and blood pressures while collecting their pension payouts.

“We do this every month because we want our customers to first feel acknowledged, and secondly we want to ensure that while wating in the queues, there must be something in their stomachs so that they can be energetic and stress free. You know when you are in town, going up and down in a big mall like Flagstaff Square, you become hungry and that is where we get in, trying by all means to ensure that our people have something to eat” said Mr. Tobela
