LOCAL RADIO STAR URGES SUPPORT TO WIN TRU TALENT SEARCH
Bongumsa Makaba navigates his passion for sport as he is the top 5 finalist
of Tru FM’s presenter search. Dj Bobo, as he is affectionately known was born
and bred in Hlwahlwazi locality, Flagstaff. He began his radio career in 2014
as a radio presenter at Inkonjane Community Radio and two years later he joined
Alfred Nzo Community Radio. Reflecting on his journey as a sport presenter,
Bobo (31) says his love for sport started at a young age, citing that he was
over the moon when he was granted an opportunity to present a sport show called
Sport Academy in 2017.
“When my manager told me that I have to present a sport show, I was so
excited because it came to my mind that this was an opportunity that I had to
grab with both hands, remember, I always wanted to present sport in my entire
life” says Makaba.
The “entertaining and humble” radio enthusiast went for auditions that were
held at Matatiele, on 19 January 2024, and was shortlisted among other
contestants in various categories. He cites that the shortlisting alone meant a
lot to him as it showed that the talent had been presented to the judges of Tru
FM. Winning this competition would completely change his life as he has been in
community radio for 10 years.
“My dream would have come true and I would understand why I was in a
community radio for such a long time. It is our dream as young ones to be, one
day, in a public broadcaster or a higher broadcaster than the community sector
that nurtures our talent” Makaba emphasized.
He expressed his gratitude for the support he has been getting, which has
led to him being announced as the top 5 finalist. He needs to get to the top 2
now and the competition is becoming more tight form him as he says he needs
more support than ever.
“Remember, we are still voting and I urge all to support me in anyway in
order for me to be the last man standing. To vote for me, simply SMS “sport3”
to 39721. SMSs cost R1.50 and free SMSs do not apply. By voting you stand a
chance of walking away with R5000 in cash. Please zihlobo zam,
khanindiduduleni” detailed Makaba, urging for votes and donations of any amount
of money or airtime.
