Benni McCarthy Declines Kaizer Chiefs Role, Eyes European Ambitions

Former Bafana Bafana Star, Benni McCarthy, has opted out of contention for the coaching position at Kaizer Chiefs, citing aspirations for a career in Europe. The 46-year-old coach, currently serving as the first team coach at Manchester United, has expressed his desire to pursue managerial roles in Europe rather than return to South Africa.

Reports indicate that McCarthy’s contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season, potentially opening up new opportunities for him. Despite Kaizer Chiefs being linked with McCarthy amid rumors of his departure from United, the renowned ex-Porto player has emphasized his intentions to continue his coaching journey in Europe.

In an interview with YOU magazine, McCarthy stated, “With the knowledge I’ve gained and everything I have contributed to this team, I want to take that and then eventually become the manager.” He expressed his eagerness to transition into a managerial role, driven by his experiences and passion for decision-making and leadership.

As Kaizer Chiefs continue their search for a permanent coach, caretaker coach Cavin Johnson has yet to secure a permanent position. Despite speculations, top agent Rob Moore cast doubts on McCarthy’s potential move to Kaizer Chiefs, suggesting that club football might not align with McCarthy’s aspirations. Moore highlighted McCarthy’s past reluctance to accept the national team coaching position due to restrictions on his choice of backroom staff.

In light of these developments, it appears that Benni McCarthy is focused on pursuing opportunities in Europe, remaining committed to advancing his coaching career on the international stage rather than returning to South Africa in the near future.
